Foreword

Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4 NKJV

In our fast-paced world, the danger for us Christians is to neglect reading and meditating on the Bible. Such neglect may have serious spiritual implications for us. Our Lord Himself has told us, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” (Mt. 4:4). Our spiritual life depends on this, and we would do well to deeply consider His words. During Christ’s season of temptation in the wilderness, He modeled for us the necessity of dependence on God, especially feeding on His Word. Satan tried to derail His earthly mission at its very start, but the Lord Jesus responded with, “It is written.” May we follow the pattern He has left for us!

How blessed we are in this present age to have so many copies of God’s Word readily available in various formats, including electronic versions, as well as the many study helps that are also freely accessible. But at the same time we know that “to whom much is given, from him much will be required” (Lk. 12:48). Privilege brings responsibility. If we are to be His disciples, we must abide in His Word, and in doing so we will experience its sanctifying effect. As the Lord Jesus said in John 8 to those who believed in Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (Jn. 8:31–32). And later, in His prayer for us on the night in which He was betrayed, the Lord spoke of the sanctifying effect of the Word, saying to His Father, “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth” (Jn. 17:17).

With these thoughts in mind, it is our prayer that the 2025 edition of these daily meditations will be a helpful aid, accompanying your feeding on the Word of God as we wait for our Lord’s soon return. Maranatha!
