Thou shalt make a covering for the tent of rams’ skins dyed red. Exodus 26:14 JND

The Ram in Scripture (3)—Devotion

Here we have the skins of the ram to be used in the tabernacle.

We do not have space to even begin to sketch out the symbolism in the tabernacle. We commend this very profitable study to our readers. First of all it speaks of Christ, secondly of His people, and thirdly of our approach to God.

One of the coverings of the tent was to be of rams’ skins dyed red. This would speak to us of Christ’s complete devotion to His Father even unto death, the red pointing to His blood. Consider these scriptures:

“My food is that I should do the will of Him that has sent Me, and that I should finish His work” (Jn. 4:34); “He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem” (Lk. 9:51); “And having been found in figure as a Man, humbled Himself, becoming obedient even unto death, and that the death of the cross” (Phil. 2:8); “Now is My soul troubled, and what shall I say? Father, save Me from this hour. But on account of this have I come to this hour. Father, glorify Thy name” (Jn. 12:27–28).

In these scriptures, we see the devotion of the Lord Jesus. We see that He came only to do the will of God His Father. It was His food to do that will. The Lord did not avoid in any way His going up to Jerusalem, knowing fully what was before Him there. Sometimes we avoid a necessary responsibility for as long as we can. Christ set His face steadfastly to go to do His Father’s will, to glorify Him, knowing how much it would cost Him.

May we worship Him for His devotion to His Father! May we also learn from Him, that our lives here would be devoted to the Father and the Son.
